All of the CBD products at Synergy Botanicals contain high concentrations of naturally present hemp Terpenes. All of our sublingual CBD oil products contain different types and amounts of Terpenes to give them that unique aroma, flavor, and desired beneficial effects. In our Featured CBD Terpenes blog series, we’ll take a look at each of these Terpenes, including their benefits and unique characteristics.
In this article: Myrcene, one of the nine natural Terpenes found in our products. Also found in plants and herbs such as basil, hops, thyme, lemon grass, and mango, Myrcene has a number of potential therapeutic benefits.
Where is Myrcene Found?
Ever wonder why drinking a nice cold beer or eating a mango might feel relaxing? Well that’s because of the Terpene called Myrcene! A good tasting beer has quite a bit of hops, which means it also has quite a bit of this Terpene.
Myrcene is a significant component of numerous plants and fruits. These include hemp, cannabis, ylang-ylang, bay, parsley, wild thyme, lemongrass, hops, cardamom, and the mango fruit. While Myrcene is present in many plants, commercial production comes from beta-Pinene, another Terpene that is one of the most abundant compounds released by forest trees. Myrcene is recognizable among Terpenes for its earth scent.
A lot of the earthy aroma and fruity undertones from hemp comes from Myrcene. This is due to it being the most abundant Terpene found in hemp.
What are the Benefits of Myrcene in CBD?
Most commonly found in “Indica” strains of hemp and cannabis, it’s believed that substantial levels can cause increased sedation. This sedating effect can be useful for the treatment of insomnia, anxiety, and even pain. Myrcene may also have anti-inflammatory, pain relief, and other beneficial effects. This Terpene is an important part of the Entourage Effect that helps heal the body alongside CBD.
If you are looking for a CBD oil for sleep, it can often be beneficial to look at the specific Terpenes found in each product. Products that use Myrcene are likely to produce better results for sleeplessness than those with less Myrcene or without Myrcene.
A 2015 study from the European Journal of Pharmacology found that this Terpene has potential positive anti inflammatory properties to help those suffering from osteoarthritis and similar conditions. A separate 2015 study from the Journal of the Korean Society for Applied Biological Chemistry had some very interesting findings regarding the potential health and treatment benefits of this Terpene. Although Myrcene has shown potential for medicinal properties, research is still limited. What we do know is that it’s in healthy foods and drinks that a lot of us enjoy!
Is CBD Oil With Myrcene Safe?
Myrcene, like all Terpenes, is a 100% natural compound found in plants and fruits. CBD Oil products with this Terpene may relax you and relieve stress, pain, or tension, but will not make you high or lead to dependence.
